Are natural things asymptotic?
What if everything in nature is an asymptote, and has a predetermined limit? What if everything in nature approaches a point but never touches it, and that is how things are created. This doesnt acount for things that are man made becasue they dont have a limit and can be manipulated, so maybe things that are man made are not asmptotic but things in nature are. Like take a plant for example. It grows fast at first, but then it starts to slow down and stops noticeably growing. It always grows, but just slower than before. Maybe it has a limit, and it going towards that limit but will never reach it. Just a thought.

Sean: If you glance over to the right on this same page (or if you do a search for "carrying capacity" on this Blog, you will find that what you are describing is correct and that there are mathematical models that address your point in very exact manners. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteWhen you talk about natural things being asymptotic where as man made thing are not, it reminds meof rational functions and how they are extremely asymptotic as the denominator cannot be zero. However, when we manipulate and factor these functions the asymptote often disappears. Just a thought...
