How are rational functions different from polynomial functions, if at all?

2 comments:

  1. Asymptotic behavior may occur in rational functions but not polynomial functions and a proper understanding of asymptotic behavior is necessary for good Kung Fu fighting.

  2. The definition of a rational function is any function that satisfies/can be expressed as

    f(x)=P(x)Q(x)

    polynomial
algebraic expression consisting of one or more summed terms, each term consisting of a constant multiplier and one or more variables raised to integral powers. For example, x2 - 5x + 6 and 2p3q + y are polynomials. Also called multinomial.
