233 Homework, attempt #2

For number 7 which we started in class, the answer I got from long division is 2x+10 with maybe a remainder of 4. I don't know if that's right. Also on number 2 I did the division but got stuck when I got to the negative 5 inside the box if that makes sense.

  1. Ok, I got to number 3 and the y2 has x-2+4/x+2. So far on the division I have x-2 but then how does that 4/x+2 come into it? Is it because there is nothing left do divide so I just throw that in there?

  2. Consider dividing 3 by 4: 4 goes into "30" (3.0) .7 times with 2 left over. The remainder, 2 is divided by 4 to give you 5 which is added to the. 7 for. 75 as your answer. So, 3 divided 4 is, .75.

So, 2 is to 4 as 4 is to (x+2).

  3. I'll let that process in my head for a little bit, thanks
